I am a committed art educator with 20 years classroom experience. I am passionate about making quality art experiences accessible to all whether through my classroom teaching, family engagement workshops at the British Museum or community based social events.
Increasingly, wellbeing through the visual arts has become a primary focus in my work. 1 in 6 children in Wales are reported to suffer from mental health challenges (Health & Care Research, Wales, 2024) and significant research indicates the positive impact that art can have on mental health.
The Curriculum for Wales is another area of interest. In 2019 I was involved with the Arts Council of Wales in supporting schools to successfully embed the Expressive Arts AoLE in Primary schools. I am specifically interested in how we can marry Health & Wellbeing with art provision. My years of experience in this area, along with my research, consolidate my belief that empowering teachers to deliver effective art projects is crucial. By allowing for autonomy and self-expression, we can foster positive wellbeing in children.
